Screen and Sound

Screen and Sound happens to be one of my current units.

Like the name itself suggests, it’s all gotta do with movies. Every week we watch a movie and then discuss it. Week 1 was Donnie Darko(Hi Lamomok!!), Week 2 was Run Lola Run and this week was Casablanca. Note to self: sleep earlier on Sunday nights so I won’t fall asleep during the movies.

Casablanca

Like almost all my other units, i’ve got this 2000 word essay due in a few weeks which carries a large percentage of my final grade – nearly half.

This is how it goes: I’ve got to choose a film out of a list of 12 top Australian films and comment on the narrative structure behind it. This list is totally different from the list we’re supposed to watch in class.

 This is the list:-

  1. Rabbit Proof Fence (2002)
  2. Australian Rules (2002)
  3. Romper Stomper (1992)
  4. Bad Boy Bubby (1993)
  5. Idiot Box (1996)
  6. The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert (1994)
  7. Wolf Creek (2005)
  8. Picnic at the Hanging Rock (1975)
  9. The Castle (1997)
  10. Mad Max (1979)
  11. The Dish (2000)
  12. Lantana (2001)

Well, frankly, I’m not too keen on a romance or comedy genre. There’s not a lot to comment on(it has to be based on theories and stuff). And knowing me, horror is my absolute forte. There’s so much to write too. Like how this leads to another, all the gruesome effects and sound and all..

BUT!

To be able to do a good essay, I’ve gotta watch the movie at least 3 times(or so my lecturer says).

My point being…

I’m going to scare myself so many times(even though its the same movie)….

So how? I can’t decide…. :X

But I’ve only finish watching 3 out of 12 of the listed movies. Woot.

When people ask me what i’m doing, i say “Doing homework!”

And when they say “Oooh…what work?”

I can say “Watching movie!” without being the slightest bit guilty
